How do we bring in technologies from the outside?
As interim CTO for a company performing technology transfer for Fortune 500 clients, Dr. Miller developed detailed processes for identifying promising technologies from the IP portfolios of multinationals, and matching them to the needs of smaller companies as licensees.
An example success was a Finnish security firm who was seeking technology to enable cell phones to unlock their existing key card systems. Their needs were met by a recently developed technology at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, and organization that they had not even considered in their internal searches.
The Finnish company took out a license and entered into a co-development agreement with Fraunhofer, and has incorporated this technology into their products.
